Autodesk Research's Project Chronicle graduates from Autodesk Labs to Autodesk Screencast

Project Chronicle was our technology preview from Autodesk Research that made it easy for users to capture, share, and learn from software workflows. Project Chronicle consisted of a recording utility to capture recordings, and a website that displayed the recordings as Chronicles — interactive video tutorials. The Chronicle Recording Utility allowed users to capture workflows from within Autodesk products. The utility recorded a continuous video screen capture and optionally voice narration. What made Chronicle unique is that is also recorded the timing and details of workflow information, such as the tools, settings, and dialog boxes that were used during the workflow. Captured data was then uploaded to the Chronicle Website. An author then published the Chronicle as either public or private, so that the desired user group could view a video of the workflow. Additionally, the captured workflow events were displayed on an interactive timeline, enhancing the viewing and learning experience.

This technology preview has ended but was very popular. I am happy to say that Project Chronicle has graduated from Autodesk Labs to become Autodesk Screencast and part of the Autodesk Knowledge Network.

Visit screencast.autodesk.com.

So now with products like Fusion 360, AutoCAD, Inventor, and Revit, you get the added feature of the Screencast Timeline, showcasing all of the product buttons, dialogs, and menu items as you record a workflow (a real value for those wanting to showcase every detail!). Based on your feedback during the technology preview, Autodesk Screencast provides a simple way to capture and share what you know. Anyone anywhere can record an amazing video at any time. There’s no other service like it. Thanks to everyone who participated in the technology preview.

Graduation ceremonies are alive in the lab.
